Join us for weekend of fishing in the UP of Michigan. Bring your Ice Fishing gear and get ready to explore Gods Country. Undeveloped shorelines, snow capped trees, and acres of frozen water await.
We all know this winter is off to a slow start and we are checking lakes daily. The exact waters we will fish will be officially announced soon, but in the mean time know that we have your safety has a top priority. Each of the lakes on our radar hold master angler fish. Some are walkable and most of the good spots are accessible via on ice transportation. Lakes on the list include, Michigammee Reservoir, Peavy Pond, Silver lake, Sawyer Lake, Lake Ellen and a few more.
On the registration form you will be asked if you are bringing on ice transportation. If you can, please bring some. If you don’t have any, will we help you get to the fishing grounds.
Bring your own Ice Fishing Gear and try to travel light. Everyone should have a sled to put their gear in. We will post some videos on the event page to give tips before the event.
Both Barb and Rikki will be there to help you improve your skills. We can help you, but this is not a class type event. If you have never Ice Fished before, this trip is not for you. Feel free to contact us if you want to schedule a small group class type event. We do not have the logistics in place to have our volunteer instructors attend, so it will be a fun adventure with a chance to catch a trophy bluegill, crappie, or perch. Rikki is a master at Vexilar and Barb can help with breaking down a lake and finding fish. Those that bring transportation will leave the main group to go on a scouting mission to help teach the run and gun method of Ice Fishing. Introduction to forward facing sonar will also be offered.
There should be enough snow for snowmobiles and enough ice for atvs or side by sides. Monitor the event page for updates. The State of Michigan has a Master Angler program similar to ours. Each year women I have taken fishing here have caught eligible fish, but we were not familiar with the MI program. One of our goals this year is to have someone earn that award. Links to that program will be listed in the comments of this event.
If you previously signed up for the UP Advanced Class that was cancelled and you want to attend this event, no need to register. Just send Rikki or I a message and we will transfer your registration. If you already received a refund, or did not register for that event, you can register here. THIS EVENT WILL BE DUPLICATED THE WEEKEND OF JAN 12-14th. BE SURE TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT DATE YOU WANT.
Cost of the event is $100 for the three days of semi-guided fishing. Affordable lodging can be arranged at the Michi-aho Resort. Phone 906-875-3514.
