16th Annual Fish Camp logo contest now in progress. Information can be found on the members only page.
Fish Camp is our biggest event of the year! We arrive on Thursday and the event ends on Sunday, but many stay Sunday night as well. We have secured 3 resorts that are all together on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. We have A-frames, a large lodge, and multiple cabins.
Thursday, we get things set up and have a seminar on how to fish the flowage. You do NOT want to miss this information to start your weekend. We will also do a seminar on how to be a good first mate in a boat. Many people don’t know why the responsibilities are of a co-boater. We can help you get invited back.
Over the course of the weekend, several classes will be offered. The exact class schedule but we will leave plenty of time for fishing. Many members bring their boats and a few fishing boats are available to rent at Donner’s Bay Resort. Call soon to hold one if you wish.
Friday night we will have opening ceremonies and special guest speakers. This years presentation will be on Walleye Spearing: How much do you really know? Our speaker is long time member Dawn Seagraves. Dawn has worked for Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) for 23 years, specifically with the spring spearing effort. Her goal with this presentation is to dispel common myths associated with the tribal harvest, often articulated by the misinformed. This topic has created tension in the local communities and has created violent encounters with protesters in the past. We hope to educate our membership to the reality of the situation and dispel much of the misinformation that is circulated.
On Saturday, we mix in plenty of time for fishing, add in a few classes, and then have a group meal at night. We will have the Master Angler Award ceremonies on Saturday night and declare Angler of the Year, sponsored by St Croix Rods.
There are numerous docks to keep your boat in the water for the weekend. We help get the boat situated and larger boats, and those with physically limited owners will get priority. Some boats can be beached but you should not have to launch and load every day. If you are along and want to bring your boat, there are many capable members that would gladly jump in with you. We also have a pontoon that we rent and tickets are available to get in on that.
This year our classes will include:
Towing a Trailer and Trailer Maintenance.
Launching and Loading a boat
Breaking down water using the Navionics App.
Humminbird Electronics Basics
and other classes are pending.
On Sunday, we have a “just for fun” tournament, present club awards, and wrap up the official activities. Check back as we will be announcing the winner of this year’s logo contest! Registration is now open!
We are currently adding sponsors to this event. If you would like to be listed as a sponsor, contact us at icefishher@gmail.com.
