For over five years now we have been taking an annual trip to Lake Superior to ice fish on the Chequamegon Bay in Ashland WI. Each year we have gone in March. Last year we found a great guide to give us a hand and he brought us to some new places where we had never been. Last year we caught more fish than ever before.
The guides were Lacey Hill and Aron Kastern. They own and operate Unlimited Trophy Outfitters a fishing and hunting guide business in Northern WI. Here is a link to their web site. Aron suggested to get on even more fish, we change our trip to early ice instead of early March. Since he is the expert, we took his advice and this year we are going in January. Once again Aron will help us get on fish. The exact location that we will fish will determined just prior to departure. Aron and Lacy will be out scouting and on other guide trips and will have up to date information on where the fishing is hot.
This will be a semi guided trip which means you bring your own gear and we go out as a group. Aron and Lacy will lead the way and will help us with our presentations and set ups to be able to catch the fish we are targeting. We tend to go after the species that we can not get in other area’s such as coho salmon, splake, lake trout, and white fish. We can catch perch and walleye in other areas but these sought after table fare is what we hunt this time. If you do not have gear, we can set you up.
Safety is always a concern and expertise on this body of water is welcomed. We can help with transportation but if you have a snowmobile or atv please bring it. On our other trips to the area we found the Crest Hotel an affordable place to stay. We have not reserved a block of rooms this time so if you want to go please make your own reservation. The phone number to the Crest Hotel is 715-682-6603. There are other options in the area as well.
Since the location of this event is somewhat of a distance to travel for some people, many of us go up a day early or stay a day later. If you want to connect with other club members to fish for those days, get in on the conversation on the members only facebook page. Talk of gear, presentations and departure locations as well as room sharing information will be discussed. If you are a member and are not in on the conversation let me know and I will add you. If you are not on facebook and would like all the detailed information, an email will be going out to all who sign up.
The cost of this event is $65 for the semi guided trip. Registration will open soon. Space is limited to be able to provide the highest service to those who attend.
