The battle will take place on the Clement Barge again this year. Clements Barge is located on the Mississippi River in Genoa, WI. There will be awards and prizes for the biggest fish, first place walleye/sauger, northern and perch. Last but not least the border trophy! The purpose of the battle is to make new friends, learn new fishing techniques and have a friendly competition with our neighboring women’s fishing club.
Here are some helpful hints for the first time barge fisherwomen. The cost is $18 per person for all day. The barge will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 6:00 p.m. Because it is bordering waters you can use either a Minnesota or Wisconsin fishing license.
There is a flag pole on shore to let the boat know that there is a pick up to take out to the barge. There is a café available on the barge however you are welcome to bring your own food and beverage. Bring your own chair (there is some available on the barge but they are limited).
You will need to bring your own pole, tackle and bait. Please keep in mind when packing that there are a lot of steep steps and a long walk from where you park to where you get on the boat. TRAVEL LIGHT! This trip is not handicap accessible due to the stairs you must go down to get to the river. Anglers are encouraged to use proper fish handling techniques and are asked to consider catch and release of the large female fish that will be full of eggs at this time.
The barge can get very crowded. The early bird gets the best spots and the locals will be in line prior to 7:00 am to get first crack at their spot. We will have check in people on the boat so look for the table close to the office on the barge.
Information sharing, car pooling, tips and tactics can be shared on the event page on facebook. Good luck to both teams. No pre registration required for WI Women Fish. Must be a member of WI Women Fish or the Women Anglers of Minnesota. Winner will take possession of the border battle trophy. Master Angler Fish are a possibility.
