For years one of our favorite places to fish was Petenwell or Castle Rock Lakes. As part of the WI River system, these lakes hold lots of big walleyes. The slot limit makes anglers release fish between 20 and 28 inches long so there are some big fish to be caught.
Crappies are another favorite target for angler on these waters. We have caught some jumbos including some over 13 inches. Some of our member have landed some huge pike as well.
The exact location of this event will be determined. Many times the bite on one lake is by far better than the other. Ice conditions always play a part in this as well. We try to pick a location that is fairly close to shore, as many do not have on ice transportation. If you have it please bring it. Someone can probably pull your sled out but be prepared to hike a ways out if you don’t have transportation. It is possible that the ice will be vehicle safe but that will have to be determined.
